Everything is a weapon and there is nothing you can make I can not use as a weapon. (Also, there are no weapons I can not find a peaceful use for.) Have carried guns in the past, will again in the future if the situation changes and I have need of specialized tools again.
A thought, I developed an interest in high explosives when the antigun nuts became too annoying. Didn't want to give them any more material for propaganda. The bad part is, this involved a change from one man, one bullet, aimed specifically at the guilty party to "the h*** with it, let's level the whole block."

If you have the type of body where you can conceal it and you are willing to put up with the weight go for it. Lots of quality .45s out there now with a larger capacity and much lighter and easier to conceal. Unsure if you are used to carrying around all the time concealed. Different than open carry. The weight really gets to you after a while. I had a 1911 by Singer from WWII for a long time. Never carried it at work, felt it was unsafe to carry ****** and locked.

Yes, well kinda, i really don't carry any weapons, but it's just as good.
I carry the following items in my backpack:
1) Batsignal: never leave the house without it. I can call batman when i need him.
2) Kyrptonite: Ehh... just in case superman goes evil again, just like he does in like 40% of all smallville episodes
3) Dog whistle: So i can call that dog...in that new movie...what was it? oh yeah! Underdog! so i can call Underdog! that's it...
4) Automatic Help-Yeller keychain: Pretty self explanatory.
5) Walkie Talkie with a channel for the Spider sense: yeah... so i can tap into Spiderman's mind and call for help!
hahaha

I carry a 9 inch military surplus bayonet almost every Saturday when I am out Treasure Hunting. I use it to dig up Civil War relics.

I used to carry a knife on me. I don't anymore though since I have a young child who loves getting into my purse and well there is nothing safe in my house, purse, or car now. I don't live in a high crime rated town, which doesn't necessarily mean anything I guess. I pretty much rely on my ability to kick someone's *** and hopefully it ends with success for me.

I'm licensed to carry a concealed weapon but don't generally find it necessary.
