Ex poisoned the waterhole and i ignored and was not very concerned before. Now it really matters. I was not concerned because of denial of its importance. Now it is different. Now it matters. But it is almost unthinkable to know the tribe has silently voted for banishment. cannot drink it away or use drugs. still cannot accept. cannot get my hands around this one.

If you know where they are and how to reach them, then take a chance and reach out - see what happens. They say you only regret that which you didn't do so for nothing else, at least give it a try. If you get no response, try again a month from now - keep doing this until either something positive happens or you get tired of the silence. Better to take an action - at least try.
If you've already tried and have given up, then accept that you did what you thought was right - at the time - leave no room for remorse. Are you familiar with Frank Sinatra's 'theme song' - "I did it my way"? We're all free to make our choices but because we're unable to see what lay ahead, it's all just a crap shoot in the end.
