Many instant messenger programs like AIM, MSN, and Yahoo!IM have mobile versions. My phone came with all three. Just look for a phone that has "Instant Messages" in the features.
It's free on the computer side, but each message is counted as a text on the mobile side.

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to download AOL Instant Messenger. I lived in Japan for a year and still downloaded it. The texting worked fine to the US.

If you go to the website the phone belongs to ie.. verizon there is a way to send messages and have the messages sent back to your e-mail address. and yes it's free! I used to do it all the time w/ my bf's fone!

yes you can if you have aim you add the persons number to your buddy list like it has to have a +1 in the beginning though like lets say the number is 555-555-5555 then you add this to your buddylist +15555555555

Well you are using Yahoo!, and Yahoo! has their own service wher you can text people from your computer, all you need is to have yahoo mail beta and if you have that E-mail me, and I will tell you how to do it.
