Just making sure if it would work for my Geology class. Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, I think it will work. But also print out and read something like this:

http://geology.usgs.gov/connections/fws/landscapes/coral_reefs.htm

so you can point out why coral reefs are important geological features (i.e. why biological coral is related to physical geology)

There aren't many new discoveries in the field of "geology" per say, but try usgs.gov They are always doing new studies withing the subfields of geology.
