The last 220D I drove had a pull-knob starter on it, and a wire coil in the dash instead of a glow plug light. Turn the key on, let the glow plug coil wire glow red-hot, then pull the starter knob out to start. Seems like the knob was on the left side of the dash, don't remember for sure. That's been a long time ago. That one was a 1970 model, I know they were like that at least that year.

if its a 220d turn key and wait for glow plug light to go out before attempting to start.
if a gas 220 then turn key on wait a few seconds for fuel pump to pressurize the system then start..
f you were to give more information it would really help

put the key in and turn

say "car on"

if that doesn't work i would just use the key
