You might want to try checking in the car again 1st.
They don't put the book in a usual place.
You can usually find the owners manual underneath the steering column by your knees. It goes into that little cubby slot.
If it is not there, I know that you can buy it online from the publisher.
Here's the site:

I hope this helps!

Many times ebay will have one, but Id go further than that and invest in the big fat(sometimes 2-3 volume) Robert Bentley Factory manual(s) for your car. The 94 100CS Wagon we owned had over 3800 pages split between 3 telephone book sized manuals on all the stuff in that car. Your xcar is old enough that you should still be able to get a paper manual or owner's manual for it.
There's a link to their website in one of the other answers, but prepare to spend $100 or so for the set. I personally don't like the CD version as I rarely want to get my laptop greasy when I'm working on my car and have to look something up. Guess I'm old school about that.
Good luck.

If your car doesn't have the owners manual with it, go to Bentley Publishers. The Audi dealer may also tell you to contact them for owners manuals - this was the case for me.
Bentley is also a good source for repair and service manuals, too.

You're probably going to be running gear oil in it.On the side of the tranny(I think)will be a 17mm hexagonal indent. It's a threaded plug and it looks like a large Allen wrench bolt. If it's there, on the side, put the car on level ground, remove it, and the gear oil should be level with the bottom of the hole. He's right technically that it doesn't take "transmission fluid", but that doesn't mean it never needs to be checked.
