Large states wanted more representatives than small states; small states wanted equal representation for all states, regardless of population. The Great Compromise created a bicameral legislature, one house of which pleased each side: a House of Representatives in which large states received more representatives than small states, and a Senate in which all states received equal representation.

Article IV , which had to do with slavery, was the one of compromise. Several other factors were inserted relating to treason, felony and crime, admission of new states, states rights and formation of the republican form of government.
