I've been thinking a half-cracked egg, plastic egg.
i also need to poke holes in it for a nuclear pore so it must be strong enough..
any ideas would be helpful!

Those small round plastic balls they play badmitten (?) with already have holes in them (try Target, or a sports store) also a ping-pong ball...

Do you have any practice golf balls? They're plastic whiffle-ball type balls with holes in the outside. Ask around. I bet someone has one they would give you. Then you can cut it in half and put some wads of string inside for chromatin and a blob of something for a nucleolus.

Go to Michael's or another craft store and buy a styrofoam ball. You can poke holes and cut it all you need.

ping pong balls! n u can dissect it to show the nucleolus which could be a marble....
