I'm trying to get The Sims 2 to work on my computer. Whenever I start it up, I get this message:

"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

I know for a fact my computer has the latest DirectX installed, so the trouble is my video card, i'm assuming. It's a Diamond Fire GL1... it's a special card my dad uses to design stuff for his work. Does the game not regognize the card or something? What's going on? please help.

Your graphics card won't do dx9. doesn't matter that the machine has it installed. if you want to play dx9 games you will need a new card.

Fortunately for sims you can get away with something fairly unexpensive.
