Why the hell did they change the story so much, I'd be pissed if was the author of the books. What weak movies compared to the books..but then again, they always are.

Books are better because they play into your imagination which is often far better than others.
Also, in a book there is no budget or reasonable time limit...that's a BIG help.

The main reason for the change is that the books are definitely about a particular era -- the 1970s when Carlos the Jackal was the terrorist.
It would be hard to get audiences interested in a three-part series about luring out Carlos the Jackal. However, turning it into a series about the CIA going overboard in the war on terror, that is a story that sells today.

Ludlum isn't complaining about much these days. He's been dead for years. Which is pretty interesting since his books are still coming out.
The real Bourne books are simply too complicated to be reduced to 1.5-2 hours.

Books can never really translate well, for there has yet to be an effective way to express that internal dialogue.
Even harry Potter suffers. I felt "Phoenix" was more like "Harry Potter and the Cliff Notes of the Order of the Phoenix"
