The gold half sovereign contains .1188 ounces of gold, which makes it worth a minimum of $94.20 just for the gold. Half sovereigns generally sell for around 15% over the gold value. Not bad!
Average circulated 3 pence coins generally don't go for much more than the silver content. I don't have a reference book here, but I think that 1921 and earlier coins are .925 fine silver, and 1922 and later coins are .500 fine silver.

Well, I can't tell you exactly, but my family had a silver coin from somewhere in the 1800's and it turned out to only be worth about 5 bucks. I think it might have been the coin you have with Queen Vic. on it. It is not rounded. It has sides on it.

Go by a coin book they will list the current vaule of the coin. Check ebay as well just do a search and you will get some what of a clue what they are selling for. And take it to a coin shop they will tell you what its worth and why its worth that price.
