We have tenants upstairs from us that called us 2:00 this afternoon to complain about my man & his friend jamming in the basement. I could hear it slightly & I was only 1 floor above the guys! THEY are 2 floors above! We also have surround sound for our TV & they complained at 8:15 PM one night about it being too loud! I know it wasn't!! What would you do in this situation? REMEMBER! WE are the landlords! THEY are the tenants! Our town has a law that there can't be any loud noise after 10:00 PM! What should we do? They have only been living here since October!

Make them some "special" brownies.....
and
Then throw a P&S party......
We will show them the meaning of loud......
In reality......
Try communicating with them, and if needed terminate their lease (legally) of course....
Peace.

oh that sucks big time and is one of the reasons you souldn't live near your renters.

Think about this, maybe there is a vent that travels to the basement and they are able to hear it better then the 1st floor, the furnace is down there , right? I remember when I lived up north listening to the duct work in my house but then I never had renters either..
I bet they are listening to everything you say.. and do.......

I have friends in brooklyn that specialize in this very type of landlord tenant communication. They do this very easily while fitting them with a new pair of free shoes ....of the cement one-size-fits-all kind.

If you are quiet after 10:00PM, tell them to put ear plugs in. You aren't doing anything wrong. They have to learn to adjust and accept their neighbors' reasonable noise levels. Just keep doing what you have been doing.

Respect them. They probably aren't just telling you for fun. They might be able to hear it even better than you! If they have said something, it probably really is bothering them. Sorry, they are right in this situation.

Woahh..looks like you have some kind of trouble here...well..communication is the key...u can try explaining that to them..and if it doesn't work out..u can remind them that if they're not happy about staying there nobody is forcing them to... (:
