Yes.

If the infection notice was from your antivirus software, you should have heeded the information that was presented.

If the infection notice was not from your antivirus software, then your computer was already infected.

Either way, you must now take steps to eradicate the problem.

Next time you start the computer, press the F8 key a few times as the Power On Self Test (POST) finishes. You should be presented with a boot menu that offers the opportunity to boot to Safe Mode.

Choose "Safe Mode" from the choices and wait for the computer to boot into Safe Mode. (This may take twice as long as booting to "Normal" mode, or longer).

If you cannot boot to "Safe Mode", note the reasons why and rewrite your question to include those reasons.

As a general rule, you ought not to reboot your computer during a crisis. You should, of course, disconnect the Internet connection by unplugging the phone line or cable line (or whatever line is connecting your computer to the outside universe).

Naturally, you're running a decent firewall, a decent antivirus program, and decent antispyware program. And, you are, of course, fully aware of all the items that startup along with whatever version of Windows you are running on your computer. You do have all your important files and settings available on removable media too; don't you? Good. You may need them.
