Noi one can be forced to work - they outlawed slavery after the Civil War. But if she is deliberately refusing to work, they can impute income to her, based on what the court believes she could make if did work. That will usually depend upon what kind of work she was doing before. For instance, if all she ever had ver fast food jobs, they would probably impute minimum wage. If she made $50k/year before she quit, they may impute that amount of income to her.
When they impute income, it lowers her child support. This is done to discourage women and men from quitting their jobs or refusing to find work just to avoid supporting their children.

I have to say it really doesn't matter if she gets a job or not with Child support now if you are paying spousal support that is different and really the courts are looking after the women and you can get that out of your mind. You need to deal with this. I have custody Of my child and have not received any child support from her in 3 years and have taken her to court and the court has reduce her payments to $64. A MONTH It sucks to be a man but we are tuff and suck it up

In Ohio, they can reduce your support if you aren't working or your support is based on your last 3 years of income and you elect to not work and it ISN'T related to caring for a non-school aged child. (read that as infant)
In other words, no sponging.....and I am not being a crab when I say that. I have 5 kids and the battle has been on-going with my oldest 2 from the start. (though I am not the one fighting...funny)
Good luck!

No but the father's are never made to pay 100% of the child's needs either. Also raising the child is work. Just because you don't earn a paycheck doesn't mean it isn't work or important.

no one can make anyone work. my aunt hasn't had a job in 40 years and says all the time people who work are idiots. she pays the price for that by having her utilities turned off regularly and freeloading off of others.
you can't force her to work but you could take custody of the kids and then not have to pay her.

No, but they can take custody away if she doesn't contribute to the support of the child.

Yes they can make her work.... And they will not let her stay on welfare for more than 4 years depending on the age of the children..... Just let the court know that she refuses to work and help out....Depending on the state you live in....
