Left refers to a segment of the political spectrum that considers a high priority the achieving of social equality through collective rights (social), as opposed to purely individual interests (private) and a traditional view of society, represented on the right policy.
right-wing, the political right, and the right are terms used in the spectrum of left-right politics, and much like the opposite appellation of Left-wing, it has a broad variety of definitions. However, it is generally used to refer to the segments of the political spectrum often associated with any of several strains of Conservatism, Traditionalism, Monarchism, Fascism, Right-libertarianism, Royalism, Corporatism, the Religious Right, Nationalism, Militarism, National Socialism, Producerism, Nativism, or simply Reactionism for the sake of being the opposite of left-wing politics.

In the most simple of terms: Left wants to have bigger government - right wants to have smaller.
But unfortunately anymore the case of the "right" is no longer true as Republicans are spending as much as Democrats and passing just as many laws.
What it comes down to anymore is that the Left wants to control your very life - from your chance at being born to the day they pick for you to die. Whereas the Right still believes in choice - mostly.
If you are truly looking for change in this country from Left vs. Right politics, try looking at Libertarians - a party made up of people that believe in the framework of the Constitution as set up by the Founding Fathers of Jefferson, Washington, Adams and others back in the 1700's and early 1800's.

There is a huge difference IF the true definitions of "liberal" and "Conservative" are applied.
There is less difference if you consider the reality of Politics in America.
A Conservative is one who conserves. He recognizes the wisdom of our Founding Fathers and why they gave us the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They wish to apply our Founder's philosophy of government to today's world. The power of government should be spread as far and wide as possible because the power given to those who govern tends to create corruption. Tyranny results if too much power is given to too few.
Conservatives wish to keep that principle is effect.
Liberals think the Constitution was a good idea then but times change. They think we should give Government MORE POWER to use to "provide" for those who won't take responsibility to provide for themselves. That shifts power to the Government and creates an atmosphere where TYRANNY is promoted.

Well, the left wing is generally thought to be the liberal side of the political spectrum, and the right wing is seen as the conservative side. Generally, Democrats are from the left wing and conservatives from the right. However, that is not always the case.
