LOL - like we need to discuss this.

Any one who answers anything other than Bobby Orr deserves a ten minute misconduct and a face wash.

Yes, Bobby Orr, he redefined the d-man. Many players of the day said that even with one leg, Orr was better than most others with two legs.

Bobby Orr for sure

1970-71 +/- +124

Career +/- +597

657 games in career.... 915 pts= 1.3ppg
if he would have played 1,767 games(most all time)... 2297pts
if he played 1487 (gretzky)... 1933pts

baiscally what im getting at here is that if his knees would have held up the question wouldnt be who is the best "defenseman" of all time it would just be who is the best "athlete" of all time

Orr... though Doug Harvey is close.

Lidstrom is probably going to end his career as a top 5 all-time blue liner as I suspect he wins his 6th Norris this year...

Other greats include Dennis Potvin, Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey, Chris Chelios, and Brian Leetch.

I've never even seen Orr play (except on video), but based on what I have learned, I think he is hands down the best ever.
