Train, Amtrak will get you there

Chinatown bus is the most economical and, depending on traffic, the fastest. Century 2000 is $12 one-way and $20 roundtrip. The Cherry bus 1 block up is $10 one way and $20 roundtrip. If you take the Chinatown bus early in the morning you can get to NYC in under 2 hours (the fastest I've gotten to NYC from Philly was 1 hour, 40 minutes) I prefer Century 2000 because they have 2 stops. 1 on the west side at the Franklin St. Subway station (1 train) in Tribeca and the terminus in Chinatown at East Broadway.

Greyhound costs $21 one way if you buy the tickets at the station. However, if you buy tickets on their website (google it), you can get Chinatown bus prices. The Greyhound obviously leaves you at the Port Authority on 8th Ave.

SEPTA/NJ Transit is the longest commute time, logging in at around 3 hours so if you have time, this isn't bad. Also, try to buy your tickets in the station cause there are pretty hefty up-charges for purchasing tickets on the train (NJ Transit charges $5). Take SEPTA's R7 to Trenton and transfer to a NJ Transit train to Penn Station in NYC.

Amtrak is the most pricey and the fastest way to go. The cheapest fare is $74 one way and the trip is only 1 hour, 10 minutes between 30th st. Station in Philadelphia to Penn Station in NYC.

I prefer the train...you can go 2 ways:

1. Faster and more expensive: Amtrak from 30th Street Station to Penn Station
2. Economical and slower: SEPTA from 30th St Station to Trenton. Switch trains - get on NJ Transit to Penn Station.
