More like selfishness, but definitely not love.

Neither. Jealousy is often caused by a feeling of severe insecurity or lack of trust by at least one person in the relationship or sometimes both people. It really isn't effected by love no matter what some may say, like if they say they're jealous because they love you so much.

insecurity in the relationship.
also if a spouse is careless, for example, if the female leans on someone and her body or beasts touches another male. this could send temperature off the scale.
or,
if the male holds a female and his body is touching her, this could also send temperatures over the top.
any kind of questionable, inappropriate or sexual type conversation could send the heat up real fast.
kind solomon, the wisest man said ... lord there are four things i don not understand, " a ship on the water, an arrow in the air, the eagle in the sky etc etc and a man and a woman.
we, men and women, have been locked in a special type of embrace since the beginning of time. and yes, we love each other very dearly. however, when love jumps the tracks, watch out. all h e l l can break loose.

Love is the first foremost in any scenario.
Jealousy shows a feeling of inadequacy. Extreme of that leads to hatred because the person is incompetent and unable to attain the love that they want so much.
All of them interconnected.

I guess you could say that it is not caused by Love or hatred, but rather that you can acually have jealosy from both. A perosn may be jealous of someone they love because they really like something about that person, and wish to be more like that person. On the other hand you may be jealous of someone you dont like because while you may not like that person for some reason, they may have a level of success, or characteristic that you like, or wish you could have.

In simple terms, jealousy is a feeling of protective resentment towards one who threatens a relationship of value. It also makes you angry, and causes depression.
So its not a simple case of being caused by love or hatred.
It could be both, or neither.
You could love someone so much that any threat to that love causes jealousy.
Or you could hate the thought of losing someone (which is not necessarily the same thing as loving them).

like they say there is a thin line between love and hate. however jealousy is normally a negative feeling. so I do believe it is caused by hatred.

It's caused by insecurity. Jealousy is just your ability to handle what another person might do to you. Figure out what you would do and then drop it. Your plan is in place and if anything ever happens you'll know what to do.

Neither - in my opinion it is caused by immaturity and insecurity separately & together. Like envy, it is one of the most toxic and destructive emotions and always is the cause of bad judgement & behavior on the part of the person who feels jealous.
