yes you need an amp not a big one at first just get one to practice on. then when you get good enough move up to a bigger amp. i remember the look on my daughters face when she had her first band gig they were horrified when they showed up with small amps and the other bands had huge amps.

Yes, you do need an amp. If it is an electric/accustic combination, then you don't have to have an amp. I have an Alverez accustic guitar. I am not real good at playing chords but I can play tabs. Good luck with the new guitar. by the way, there are many sites to go and down load sheet music for free.

you need an amp. without an amp it sounds like a loosely-strung guitar. talk to someone at the local guitar store to get a good price/good brand.

If you want other people to here you play then yes. You definately need an amp. Otherwise wht would project the sound? The thing is solid!
