I had over 3000 pics on yahoo photos, then they were closing and suggested that I transfer them to flickr. So I did and have been enjoying Flickr very much.

But now I just got an email saying that my trial period has expired and that I have to pay an annual fee to get access to my pics back!!! Well I figured that yahoo photos was just going through updates or enhancing their site, but it's been four months!!!

And wait did you know that Yahoo OWNS Flickr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If that aint the shadiest thing I've ever seen... Is yahoo gonna start trying to find ways to charge everyone for their services?

Well that is shady, tell them to give you your photos back or you will contact the BBB on them.
That does not sound right at all they should give you a choice on to keep them there or download them.
I had to do a transfer too and I have not got a e-mail from them.Do you know if the e-mail is real?Because I have not paid them. Also I am going to check mine.
*UPDATE* I just went to Flickr and they told me the same thing but the only thing I see is if I want more uploads a month then I have to pay.I can use my account but can not upload too many pictures a month. And it starts over every month. Here is what it reads"When you have a free Flickr account, you can upload 100MB worth of photos each calendar month. This is a bandwidth limit, and not an amount of space that you have on Flickr servers.

Your bandwidth allowance is reset to zero at midnight in Pacific Time Zone (Flickr headquarters time) on the first of each calendar month. You can't recover any of your monthly allowance by deleting photos. If you have a free account, you'll see your limit on the upload page.

If you find yourself hitting your limit, try a Pro account. Or, you can shoot your photos at a lower resolution or resize them to be more "web-friendly" (like 300KB instead of 5MB)."
