"Life" is a process, and it does "not equal energy." That is a misunderstanding of the terms. Energy is a measurable "ingredient" in living processes, but is not identical to life.

Life can end. Energy can be transformed into matter (example: nuclear reactions) or other forms of energy. For example light can be transformed into heat. But the law of conservation of energy governs: the energy that goes into a process can be accounted for after the process completes.

What can change is the amount of disorder, called entropy, within a system. Life is a temporary "reversal" of entropy (that comes at the expense of greater entropy in the surrounding environment). But in the greater universe, entropy continues to increase, and there's nothing that can stop it (as far as we know). Now, that is sobering!

When a person dies, their physical body separates from their soul. Your soul is who you are- your physical body is just the vehicle that houses your soul while you live this life. God created each person in His image. He did not create us just for this life, but to last forever. His intention is that each person spend eternity in Heaven with Him. God is perfect, and being just, can't allow the imperfect into Heaven. Since people are sinful, there is no way that we can get into Heaven. We owe a penalty for our sin that we can't pay. But God loves us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to pay our penalty by dying on the cross, The blood of Jesus paid our penalty for sin and washes us clean from sin. Sinless we will enter Heaven when we die. But the only way we can receive that gift is to accept it. If you don't accept Jesus as your Savior, then you are still guilty and will spend eternity in Hell separated from God. We will not be just energy when we die, but God has promised that each person will receive a new body, suited to where they will be spending eternity. Read John 3:16

Life is nothing more than a complex series of chemical reactions. When those chemical reactions end, so does life.

What happens to one's consciousness is up for debate. Some would say that a person's "soul" goes to heaven. Others would argue that it simply ceases. Still others would say that your soul joins a collective consciousness. "Life after death" is a question we can never hope to know the answer to.

Matter can be converted into energy, therefore we are not "energy" we are merely converting matter into energy. We are the machines, akin to a automobile. If we ourselves were energy, it would seems to also suggest the same of all material objects - then you might as well be a Shinto.

Energy simply changes into something else. I don't think that it dies. It transfers.
