I've noticed this year, and perhaps last year, that I'm hearing the original, sadder lyrics of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" being played over the airwaves. I hear "Next year all our troubles will be out of sight" and "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow", rather than the more typical "From now on our troubles will be out of sight" and "Hang a shining star upon the highest bow"? I have my ideas why more people want to sing the darkest lyrics this year (and maybe last year, too), but why do you think this is happening?

People are having a tough time economically and the war is still going on & a lot of times we listen to music that matches our moods or environment*

Well YouTube doesn't work with our internet so I couldn't listen to them. But, yeah that is kinda sad.
Some people may like the original, darker, version better just simply becuase it is original. I hate how so many artists are taking great Christmas songs and changing the tempo or style (mainly becuase then I can't sing along!). So, originals are good with that.
But it does seem like our culutre is turning depressed. Depresses and fat. And for some sad people, listening to sad songs is calming, knowing that others feel the same way. Personally, I understand, but have never been in that situation. So, that is my thoughts on the situation.
