Not masculine? being able to move those heavy trays in a bakery will make you VERY masculine , mate.

Anyway - joking aside. Nothing wrong with you chosen career. All those "real men" who think you are gay are the type that likely sit at home in front of the TV and expect their slaves - I mean, women, to go fetch their beers and cook them dinner.

Don't worry about it - they can think what they like. They will be the ones come running to you for great pastries when they want to eat.

The worlds' best chefs and pastry cooks and chocolate makers are men.

It is OK to tell everyone.
It's good to have a life skill.
Cheers from Australia

PS Did you know that knitting was NOT orginally done by women. It was invented by men!

Wow, 19 and a career you like already, that's fantastic.
You never can tell where this love of making cakes and pastries could lead.
This is how the best pastry chefs start out. If anyone you know has a problem with your job, they are not a good friend. Watch the food Channel and see how many guys are on there.

I think a man who can bake is a total turn on for women. It shows that you have a talent that many guys don't possess. Plus there are many men who are trained chefs who are very successful and have made a career out of baking/cooking. If a woman thought you weren't masculine enough because you can bake, then she's immature and you should move on to someone who would appreciate that trait. Good luck!

I think I'm pretty darn good, that's what I think of a guy like that. I learned to cook and bake as a teen. My mom said that if I ever have to live on my own, it's not going to be her fault that I starved to death eating PB&J sandwiches. I fix dinner Mon-Fri and my wife cooks on weekends (I get home an hour or more than she, also she did all the cooking for the 20 years I was in the Navy, so it's her turn to kick back and relax). One thing I like about COOKING compared to BAKING..it's hard to experiment baking.

It's okay Commander. I'm raising two kids, one is 11 and the other 15. I do most of the cooking. I didn't know how to bake. So my 11 yr old daughter and I learned together. Now she does most of the baking and is really good at it. But I had to learn in order to help her. It's a matter of learning to be "self sufficient". Don't let these guys tell you it's gay or not manly. Just stay out of Starbucks and your manly-hood will be alright!!!! lol

I know of plenty male bakers! I think it's all in how it is presented. If you say...I like to bake cakes and pastries...then yeah, people are going to naturally associate it with femininity. But if you say, "I am a baker," I would never associate it with a particular sex. My favorite bakeries are owned by men. My hairstylist is a heterosexual man and he gets angry when people call him a "hairdresser" or "beautician" because he thinks that it doesn't sound masculine and typically associated with females. But to call him a "stylist" seems more uniform and appropriate in his eyes.

So, if you work at a bakery, you are a baker. And that's that. If you really want to sound masculine, say that you are a dough & batter engineer :)

I think you are very talented and not like some guys I know, but you own up to the fact that you can bake. More power to you. And keep it up, as for me I think it is a very good thing to be proud of. And I do not think you are anything but masculine for doing it. And keep it up and you will be a good baker some day. Good Luck from a woman who buys already made up in a box and mixes it that way.

Are you kidding?? I think most women would LOVE it if their guy not only could, but would bake for them once in a while!
What is not masculine about that?? It has nothing to do with masculinity and those that think that it does are living in the dark ages.

I think that's great! My grandmother taught me how to cook. I can make cakes, bread, and everything from pork, beef, chicken to fried apples, cornbread, and mashed potatoes. I think it's good when a man knows how to cook. The truth is many of the world's best chefs are men. So I do not think anythings wrong with a guy knowing how to cook.
