I have 4 neon tetras and 2 algae eaters. One of the neon tetras has lost some color (not as brilliant as before) and he's twitching. He twitches in one spot for awhile and swims (twitching) and goes back to twitching in one spot. My husband takes care of the tank all the time. We've had them for almost 5-6 months I believe. None of the other fish are doing this, just the one tetras.

If your tank is too small, less than 30 gallons for the neons and probably more for the "algae eaters" (not a specific name and probably a fish that actually needs a tank of 125 gallons), your fish is stressed and the others may also begin to show signs of stress and illness. If your "algae eater" is a gold or Chinese algae eater, it may be attacking your fish as they are aggressive, but usually not until they get larger than the inch or two in length they usually are when they're sold.

Well to really answer I think one would have to watch the fish maybe. The fish may have some sort of sickness that the others don't have yet. Being that you have had the fish for that long and the time they were at the pet shop is not known it may just be that fishes time and thats why none of the other fish are showing the same behavior.

The batteries are getting low.
Or could be a bad ballast.
