They give it to you straight, this may seem a little off but in the long run makes sense, but then that's my opinion of what I feel a friend is.

Friends come in different types, true and close but one must also choose their friends very, very carefully. Some can turn out false, unfaithful and even dangerous. It's difficult, but after time one should try and be keenly perceptive of those whom we meet and consider creating close friendships with. Of course and wonderfully some friendships sometimes just come naturally.
I do think there are some tests of friendship. These include:
Continued loyalty.
Willingness to sacrifice.
Respect.
Likemindness.
A true friend will make all attempts to be there for their friends in whatever way possible 24/7/365; love of course being the greatest part.

Hi Moon. This is a good question and I will try to answer it from my heart.
Real friends don't betray you and they don't use you. They don't gossip about you or ever try to make you look bad in front of other people. They don't always spend the whole time talking about themselves. They actively check on you to see how you are doing, even if you are not talking about yourself. A real friend will respect your privacy and your relationships with other people. She will never try to seduce your husband or boyfriend. She may also be friendly with those you are close to, but she will not try to replace you. She will not compete with you for the affections of others.
A real friend will still be close to you after years apart because you understand each other.

Good question. I always think that I am reminded of who my friends are when I am unwell....and my friends go out of their way to send messages of support. I am always surprised by how many I get....by how many people really seem to care. I also think of the people who can pick me up and put a smile on my face when I am having a bad day as true friends....and I have quite a few of those, too.

My truest and dearest friends are those who I am willing to tell my secrets too...That is a very short list. But there is a slightly larger circle, those who I know care and have shown it in action. I may not be willing to tell them my secrets but I know that they are there for me and I for them. This is also true friendship - being there even if you don't know what the problem is.

A few of the characteristics of a true friend are:
1. One who does not engage in gossip about you
2. One who is bold enough to lovingly tell you when you are in error.
3. One who prefers your needs above their own.
4. One who is willing to stick by you and defend you when necessary.
5. One who gladly shares in both your times of joy and suffering
6. A true friend never gives up on you ever, for any reason.

Hi Moon, are you doing any better today?
To me, a friend is so many different things.
I think Zalem described it pretty good.
I can only add that I have done some really stupid things recently and the friend that knows hasn't judged me or liked me any less for it.
(((HUG))) for you.

Personally, I like it when they show consideration for me and my well-being. And remain my friend even if I make a bad decision or two.
The above descriptions sound like friends to me.
