Providence is a small, but lovely city. It has a wide range of cultural activities, great shopping, charming parks, and excellent variety of restaurants. Rhode Island also has wonderful beaches and recreational areas.
Brown University, the third oldest college in the US, has a beautiful campus in the heart of the city that encaptures its rich history while still being fresh and modern.
I live in Massachusetts but have a real fondness for Providence. I go there often to shop and eat out. My favorite event is WaterFire Providence -- a series of 100 bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of the downtown. It is simply spectacular.
