I just learned that. It really surprised me. George Washington owned like 316 slaves.

Coop, you need a history lesson my friend. Slavery was not legal or even practiced in every country at that time.

The Americas, Portugal and England basically invented the slave trade on the great scale between continents. Yes, slavery has been practiced since the dawn of man, but never as brutally as the trans atlantic slave trade. So lets not be so quick to justify and dismiss.

When the Constitution was written and the phrase all men are created equal was used they were referring to the White men that were already there at the time. They had no intentions of including Black, or freeing slaves. Or even opening the Land to more Whites from other countries. Also did you know that American Indians were not considered American Citizens until the 1920's . We have all come a long way!

Did you know that slavery was legal at that time and it was practiced on every continent in the world and that people of all colors were slaves at different places in the world and that slavery had been practiced for about 4000 years by then and that when George Washington died all his slaves were made free men by his will.

Yep. They even counted slaves as 3/5 of a person for census purposes....

I heard that too..he supposedly was "nice" to them too, but having a slave is not nice in any form..I think its disturbing.
