In '03 her husband divorced her in the midst of being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, although it was because he was an alcoholic and didn't want to face her and his kids. Since then he has lost 150 pounds due to surgery and still drinks, but for the past year he has been taking my aunt on vacations and she's basically living w/him.

He has told her repeatedly that he does not want to get married again, she does. She thinks he will change since he left his other girlfriend.

How can I prove to her that she's an idiot for doing this stuff?

You can't. If you tried to tell her, she wouldn't listen. Unfortunately, she's going to have to find out on her own that he won't change and won't remarry her.

The lovely thing about being an adult is that we get to make our own decisions.

If you feel you must discuss this with your aunt, I suggest you use words like "I feel" and "I worry" and not "you should".

Then go live your own life on your own terms.

You cannot, like all of us she has to learn her life lessons by mistakes, do not even try, just be there when she needs you, and she is going on vacations, may be she thinks it is better than nothing

Your aunt's life is hers, and her "problems" do not belong to you. Therefore, they are not yours to solve...

she is apparently an adult, so let her make her own decisions.

if she asks for advice, let her know what you think -- otherwise, people never appreciate unsolicited advice.

manage your own life as you see fit, and let others do the same...even if it's not what you'd do personally.
