Well this is a very complex issue for me. It depends on your definition of "good service." If my waiter/waitress is rude, then no I would not leave a tip. However, if they are slightly delayed in their service, I still give them the benefit of the doubt because I respect the fact that they may be busy. I'm the type to always give a tip, but not if the waiter/waitress completely doesn't deserve it. Fortunately, I have never had a waiter/waitress like that.

Depends, if she is overworked and running around trying to do everything for everybody, then yes cause I feel sorry for her! The management should get off there asses and help or get her some help!!!! But I usually leave what I can. I have been a waitress before and if it the hardest job overall for no money. It pisses me off when I worked real hard to serve and make there meal pleasant and they then don't tip. Not everyone could do a job like that, you have to multi-multi task, have a fantastic memory, deal with the public good folks and the asses too! You have to be in good physical shape to keep up, manage money, think fast & put up with gropers! So yes you should leave a tip !!! But if she's just rude, lazy or acts like you are bothering her or she is busy talking to her friends then I might give her a written tip on paper telling her why she didn't get one! Not leaving a tip tell you a lot about a person! SAD!!!!

Absolutely. Having worked in the food service industry, I know what it's like to be having a bad day, and perhaps make a few mistakes or not appear as personable as you should when dealing with customers. These people are overworked and underpaid, and from personal experience, those tips are needed.
However, if I ever got bad service a second time, I couldn't overlook it as a bad day again.

once you're a waiter, you legally could record all your information, and if the finished does not attain minimum salary, the eating place could pay as much as minimum salary, a minimum of (some have an contract to pay extra, yet maximum do not). the clincher is, the eating place HAS TO pay you a minimum of a small quantity in line with hour, so as that they'd call you an worker. maximum eating places pays the minimum required by using regulation, and stress the waiter to make the rest up in information from the shoppers, in any different case be confronted with minimum salary. this means that, on right of having to pay for an costly meal (assuming this could be a eating place we are talking approximately right here), the shopper has tp pay the WAITER besides, in any different case they are considered merciless. in actuality, it incredibly is the corporation itself this is extra merciless. think of those situations: a million. if the shoppers pay the waiter nicely adequate, then the enterprise does not could, and nevertheless made the money from the meal. 2. if the shoppers do not pay the waiter nicely adequate, the enterprise nevertheless purely has to pay them the variation between the quantity of tip earnings line with hour, and the minimum salary promised by using the government, and that they nevertheless have the money from the meal, which offsets that! what's extra, if the waiter falls into concern 2 too frequently, they are considered a "undesirable waiter" by using the enterprise, and are fired and altered by using somebody else who's deperate adequate to artwork decrease than such loopy regulations. if issues have been equitable, the enterprise would be required to pay a minimum of minimum salary to it incredibly is waiters, ON right of information, when you consider that a tip could theoretically be considered as "extra effective" precise? yet once you're in line with paying the information out in develop, the enterprise makes out like a bandit, not having to pay that lots in any respect (this is, in some states, as low as $2.13). now who's the harsh one? i nevertheless circulate away a tip while the provider went previous expectancies, yet this is seldom the place i stay...

standard tip is 15% (of the pretax total).
i usually give about 20% if I'm pleased with the service.
i don't tolerate bad service. i seek remedy from manager.
i'm not interested in the "bad day" excuses others have mentioned here. if you can't do your job, find another. if you have reasonable intelligence, waiting tables is not a difficult job.
