My Dad taught me phonics when I was three, I loved it. I was an attention hog and the only way I got attention was impressing Dad with my reading skills. It paid off in the long run, by 6th grade I was reading at college level. I was the only fifth grader in my school reading 1984 (that's a book by George Orwell for you kids).
