There is always some date, a few years off, that portends the end of life as we know it.
Not so long ago, everyone was convinced civilization would be thrown into another Dark Ages, because of a little "bug" called Y2K. My lights didn't so much as flicker. My computer did keep thinking it was 3-1-00, when it was really 2-29-00, though.
Religious writer Hal Lindsey, back in the seventies, was saying that the rapture would hit, when the EEC had ten members. Well, it went over that and the European Union now has twenty-seven members, so that was all smoke too.
Go way back and take a look at the Millerites, the forebears of the current Seventh Day Adventists. At first, Jesus was to return between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844. When that didn't happen, they changed the date to October 22, 1844. When that didn't happen, it was called the Great Disappointment. People were in trees wearing homemade bird wings, ready to fly up into heaven.
For some reason, people seem to need some future date to be afraid of. You can be afraid of the future, but you know not the hour of your doom.

Actually it's 12/21/2012. The Dresden codex (Mayan calendar) says a flood will wipe the earth clean and start a new beginning. I saw this on nat geo. I don't know. I do know the mayan calendar is the most accurate calendar in known history but not sure if I buy the armageddon prophecy. I guess we'll find out soon. In a strange coincidence, on that very day, it will be the first time in known history that the earth revolves around the sun under the latitudinal center. Hmmm...

So you believe everything a Mayan would say. Have you ever seen a Mayan?? Do you live next to one??
The ancient Egyptians knew more and were more credible than the Mayans. Also I don't remember seeing any hieroglyphics saying the would would end in 2012. I must of miss that pyramid.

Hi.The Mayan prediction and Mary's prediction...Coincidence ??? The Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing at Medjugorje since 1981 and is still appearing.Of course most people refuse to believe in Apparitions .They say it is trickery or some strange atmospheric illusion that is responsible. However, there are just too many well recorded and documented apparitions to dismiss as fantasy or misguided spiritual fervour. Our Lady has been appearing to six young people at Medjugorje. She is giving each seer ten messages (or secrets) of happenings that will occur in the near future. She is appearing to the seers to tell the world of the urgency to return to the ways of God.
Mary said :"WHEN YOU SEE A NIGHT ILLUMINATED BY AN UNKNOWN LIGHT, KNOW THAT THIS IS THE GREAT SIGN FROM GOD THAT THE CHASTISEMENT OF THE WORLD FOR ITS MANY TRANSGRESSIONS IS AT HAND, THROUGH WAR, FAMINE,PERSECUTION OF THE CHURCH AND OF THE HOLY FATHER."
The ninth and tenth messages are grave matters. They are a chastisement for the sins of the world. The punishment is inevitable because we cannot expect the conversion of the entire world. The chastisement can be mitigated by prayers and penance. It cannot be suppressed. An evil which threatened the world according to the seventh secret had been eliminated through prayer and fasting .For that reason the Blessed Virgin Mary continues to ask for prayer and fasting. "You have forgotten that with prayer and fasting you can ward off wars, suspend natural laws". "After the visible sign, those who are still alive will have little time for conversion"According to one of the visionaries,we are close to the events predicted by The Blessed Virgin. [2012 ???]
EDIT.....I am not making this up,although i feel nobody will take this seriously. These are the words of Mary. I know fundamentalist Christians who live on every word in the Bible will say "If it is not part of scripture then it is false. " But things have happened after the Bible was written ,but they refuse to believe.God's mother has given us the answer to our problems but they fall on deaf ears and closed minds.Hence the "thumbs down"

Some humans can be so ignorant. First they thought that humans evolved from apes. Not possible. For if it were so, we would have all finished evolving. Now they think they know when the world is going to end? Ha, yeah right!
They also said it was going to end June 6, 2006 but did that happen? Nope. People are always more likely to believe error if there is some truth mixed into it. Because many of the people that are making this statement are scientists and ought to know what their talking about, many people accept their statements as truth. It doesn't always have to be that way. Do you really think what their saying is true? Don't let your mind be manipulated by that bullshit! What do they know about the future and death?
But what I do believe is that there is a supernatural being somewhere in the universe that is planning this day even as we speak. Judging us for our sins and unholiness, to see if we are worthy to live in this wonderful place called Heaven. That being is God. I am only 14 years old but even I know truth from error. Maybe most of the people on here don't believe in Him but I do. Thumbs me down if you want to but I know what I believe in. The problem is...do you?

I would like to know which scientists have agreed with this. Anthropologists know that the Mayan calendar stopped at that point because it was created back around 1000 A. D. and there was no need to go more than a thousand years in the future.

History may end. History being what we have been in for the last 10,000 years or whatever, since "the Fall". Whatever that was. We have become disconnected from Nature. We have fallen into ordinary consciousness, into living as an ego. And what may happen on 2012 is an unimaginable event, towards which history has been heading all along, that will bring us out of history, out of our disconnection, back into state of unity with the planet.
That, at least, is what Terence McKenna thought. More or less.

The Mayans were a superstitious and primitive people in spite of their achievements. Why would anyone believe any predicition made by them? Has any physicist made such a claim? Is there any scientific basis behind such a claim? Lots of other things to worry about that have an immediate bearing on current events.

Only God knows when the world shall end. Many doomsday predictions have been made even after the inception of the scriptures. Nobody will know the EXACT time the world will end, but this is not to say there will be clues to an approximation. The Holy Bible has clues to the time of the end woven all through it. Not meaning to frighten anyone, but I am aware of these clues and they unquestionably point to a date somewhere between 2010 and 2017. Who knows? Maybe the original ancestors of the Mayans weren't even from Earth? UhOh! Better call Forrest Whitaker he might have a story to air on The Twilight Zone!?!

The Mayan prophecy says that TIME as we know it, will cease. We presently see time as linear---past, then present, then future. Time is really circular, with past, present and future all existing at once only on different frequency levels. "Psychics" simply have the ability to switch frequencies and peer into the time stream. Since it is constantly in flux, even their predictions are only for the time stream they observe then. If you were to make even one different decision than what they see, you would switch streams and the future in this new time stream would not be the same as the other. I know, kinda mind blowing, but if you get in to quantum physics and even some of Einstein's studies, you'd be amazed.
