The best way to do "WELL" in school is to :
1) Attendance is crucial, don't miss ANY class and be on time.
2) Pay attention, and take good notes.
3) Utilize time in between classes for reviewing your previous class.
4) Assemble a study group, and meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
5) Don't crunch all your studying into the week before finals.
6) Have a social life, but don't let it spiral out of control.
Good Luck!

Don't skip class
do all your assignments including the extra readings
study, don't cram
go to your professors or ta's office hours (this will not only get your questions answered but you will build a relationship with them and it might make things easier if you need them to cut you slack or allow you to turn in a late assignment later in the semester.)

I think the most important thing is to listen in class. Really listen and understand it. After class go back and review it a couple of times.
