Never use oven cleaner on a self cleaning oven because some residue may remain, and be changed by the high heat into compounds that can etch the porcelain enamel.
A self-cleaning oven works by getting VERY hot and burning all the grease, food, etc. off the surface. All that is left is a little ash.
Wipe up any food spills with a damp cloth. Use hot water and detergent or a paste of baking soda and hot water on difficult spots; rinse well with vinegar water to remove all residue. This prevents the soil from being baked on during the high heat of the cleaning cycle. Re-clean these areas after the cleaning cycle is used.
I hope this helps.

A self cleaning oven doesn't require any chemicals. You turn the dial to the self cleaning setting, and it heats up and burns off whatever drips and spills are inside. It will smell. And it will get very, very hot in there. If your oven is a fairly new one, it will lock itself shut so you can't burn yourself by opening the door. I had an older oven that required me to slide a horizontal bar that locked the door before setting the self cleaning knob. Don't use chemicals or scour around inside there if it's self cleaning -- you can damage the surface inside.

A self-cleaning oven works by literally burning the dirt off and out. That is why you have to be careful not to have anything in it during the self-cleaning cycle.

Self cleaning ovens work by extreme heat...they literally reduce everything to less than ash. Oven cleaner...smells awful, is caustic and messy...plus could damage the self cleaning oven surface.

oven heats up to about 800 degrees fahrenheit. the heat incinerates the residues inside. if you put oven cleaner in you would be constructing a bomb of sorts. at the least, you would be exposed to nasty fumes. you don't add anything. but there is a lock on the door that has to be put in place for it to work.
