nothing is slow unless it has a virus or something and i would choose vista since it has a better source of web surfing like me i have a Compaq laptop its vista and its pretty darn good.

I bought a gateway laptop with vista home premium. Vista has the potential to be great but has many more cons than pros. I find vista highly annoying with some of its notification and especially hate the fact that it is compatible with almost no programs and software. Some have patches to work with vista, but they never do work quite right. Vista has some nice qualities about it also, such as customization and easier access to files and programs on the computer. I love my gateway, but would rather have XP on it. I have tried loading XP, but it causes some of the hardware not to work properly. If I could get my sound fixed XP would be my OS. Ultimately the decision is yours, I just thought I would offer my opinion.

Dell portables are excellent! Good choice.

Vista is fabulous as well. The security on Vista is much tighter due to the session permissions being designed better. Check out this link:

The ability to set up a network is so much easier it's almost scary, and the search features in Vista are outstanding. Aero glass is quite the eye-candy. If you are looking for flash, then why not... it's fun. Make sure that you get a version higher than Home Basic or you won't get the option of Aero Glass:

I agree with that one guy who stated that you should make sure to get a system with 2GB of memory. Vista will work with 1GB as the mimimum, but after using it extensively, I recommend 2GB at the very least.

There are quite a few Dell systems that are still available with XP, but Vista is the way of the future, there's no sense having to catch up later if it's available now.

Microsoft already tried to pull the plug on XP, but comsumer demand made them change their mind... but they are fazing it out.

I hope this helps a bit, happy shopping!

If ya get a dell, and ya get vista, get at least 2 GB of Ram. That will take care if the "slow" problems. As XP was in 2001, Vista is just different. It is not bad. Stay away from ACER and Toshiba laptops if ya choose against dell. Take a gander at tigerdirect.com and see if ya find something there to your liking. They are very reasonable.

For the record... I like XP better.

I prefer XP because my business software is not compatible with vista. I've heard a lot of negatives about vista. Check out Staples, Office Depot - Staples now sells Dell computer from their stores - don't have to order and wait and wait. There are other good brands out there, talk to someone at Staples, Office Depot or Office Max.

Vista will get better as thy iron out the bugs. Xp for now but sooner or later Xp is going to die off and less and less programs will support it.

I bought a laptop with Vista on it and I do not like it. XP is so much better, but that's just my opinion. Good Luck :)

Theres no point getting Windows Vista at this point in time, maybe in about 6months they will have patched it enough, but before then its mainly just a few fancy graphics, but its not stable.

Stick with XP, its a very nice easy OS, and for even better shiznizs dual boot with a linux distrubution (i use kubuntu)
