Very often certain songs have specific memories attached to them. That's the great thing about music; a song can be a mini 'time machine' that can take you right back to time in your life. They're not always good, but most of the time, they are.

"Baker Street"- Gerry Rafferty - summer of '78. My 1st summer at sleepaway camp. It wasn't a total departure though. My mom worked there. :)

"Life's Been Good"- Joe Walsh (ditto)

"Listen to the Music" -Doobie Bros. Reminds me of my dad, for some reason. I have a vague memory of him whistling along to it.

"Only You"- Yaz- The very 'forward' girlfriend I had at camp in summer of '85. She put this song on & kissed me for the whole 3:10. A Very cheesy, "80s movie" moment for me! lol!

"A Day in the Life"- Beatles- me & 3 other childhood friends pretending to be the Beatles! We had a cheap (probably Radio Shack) tape recorder running while we "sang" it & banged aimlessly on a piano in the room. I WISH I still had that tape.

Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' and 'Second Hand News' {in fact, the entire 'Rumours' album}, will take me straight back to any Summer car journey of my childhood.

'Rooms On Fire' ~ Stevie Nicks. When I hear this, my memory is of the first time I heard it : sitting in the car, outside a bakery on the way to see my granny, listening to the radio.

'Black Velvet' ~ Alanah Miles : In a 'Little Chef' on the way home from Wales, where my mum bought me the various artists cassette it was on ~ with my uncle looking on disapprovingly.

When I was about 9, I *loved* the Wings album 'Band On the Run'. When staying at my granny's, I came up with this little play sort of thing, based on the songs. I remember being in the garden with a couple of {sort of} friends {I only saw them in the holidays, and our friendship didn't last long}, and we were singing along to the title song.
Wow ~ I'd forgotten about that!

Most of my music listening has been a solitary pursuit, so I don't have many memories attached.

You Shook Me All Night Long- AC/DC- My friends and I listened to it all summer when we hung out, which was like every night.

Teardrops on My Guitar- Taylor Swift- Our high school softball team always sings along to this when we're lifting weights.

Teenage Wasteland- The Who
It Ends Tonight- All American Rejects
The Great Escape- Boys Like Girls
Our Time Now- Plain White Tee's
Those four are also during softball.

First Time- Lifehouse
How Far We've Come- Matchbox 20
More Than A Feeling- Boston (Late nights on the beach)
Those two are from when my brother & I took some friends with us to visit family in California over springbreak.

Flavor of the Week- American Hi-Fi- When I was younger, me and a bunch of my friends made a music video dance thing to this. Fun summer : )

Zombie Nation- Kernkraft 400- Going to sporting events with friends.

Rihanna - Umbrella
Firstly, I know I should hate this song. But I can't.
A friend of mine and I got lost while orienteering earlier this year. My asthma started kicking in and I was really scared. I would have cracked if I had been there by myself, but he was there with me and everything turned out fine. It started raining at some stage, so we hid under a tree. This song was going through my head the whole time.

Damien Rice's album, O reminds me of the first time I got my heart broken. I couldn't listen to it for a good few years but I but it on again during the week and it only brought back good memories.

Franz Ferdinand - Walk Away.
This one is kind of random. I was on a school tour and one my friends and I were really bored. We sat on the floor and threw shoes at each other while singing this at the top of our voices. There was copious amounts of sugar involved.

^_^

"Highway 61 Revisited" by Bob Dylan. My papaw and I use to be on the road a lot. We would always listen to this album and this was my favorite song from it. We would play it over and over again.

"Drunken Angel" by Lucinda Williams reminds me of my dad. Not because he ever listened to it (which he might have, if he ever heard it), but the song seems to have been written about him.

"80s Ladies" by K.T. Oslin...lol! My mom had this tape and we would sing along in the car when I was a little girl.

"Mother" by John Lennon reminds me of a road trip I took with my granny. It was the first time I had ever heard the song and I played it over and over again for about 5 hours straight.

"Jackson" by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. My family owns a farm....a very large farm. A very large part of our crop is tobacco. Whenever I was little, me and the neighbor boy (well, he lived a few miles away...but he was our closest neighbor) would sing this song to entertain the workers at dinner time (i.e. lunch time). Every time I hear the song I think of that.

I have so many memories tied to music, it's hard to choose just a few...

I spend an entire summer locked in my room when I was 12 just listening to Tom Petty and Ani DiFranco non stop... I keep remembering that summer everytime I hear Petty's Wildflowers and Ani's cover of Prince's When Doves Cry....
And in my old Bio class, we would belt out the Steriograms (esp. Walkie Talkie Man) on the top of our lungs when we dissected the pig.... not such a great memory :0 )

Wow, I love all of yours. You're not the only one with memories attached to the Beatles...
Long Long Long reminds me of my childhood for some reason. I remember back when it was always warm on Halloween night and me and my brother would sit outside real late and carve pumpkins and sometimes run around like chickens with our heads cut off.
Jump by Van Halen reminds me of my Uncles cottage. I think it's probably because I always used to hear it when I visited there.
Bron-Yr-Aur by Led Zeppelin reminds me of moving out to the house I live in currently. I live way out in the boonies by cornfields and whatnot. When spring comes along, I usually help out with planting and stuff and the first time I helped, I grabbed Physical Graffiti and played Bron-Yr-Aur on repeat. Good times...
Anywho, there's my lengthy song memories.

P.S. I'm a girl and I used to pretend I was Ringo... strange right? =)

My favorite song is Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and it is always a bitter-sweet song for me because every time I hear it I'm reminded of my childhood best friend who died 4 days after her 16th birthday of Leukemia.

Otherwise, I can remember being small and sitting on my dads huge toolbox in the barn behind our house while my dad tinkered with his late 50's Olds and Don McLean's "American Pie" being on the radio. That song always reminds me of that time.

Summerland by Everclear. It reminds me of all the days my best friend and I would play N64 up in his room while listening to music, especially that song because I loved it. I feel like I go back to that time just for a little while.
