Why don't you just flip it around.

A dermatologist must be knowledgeable of the anatomy of the hair to understand the process of how acne is formed.

A dermatologist must be knowledgeable of the anatomy of the hair in order to understand the process when acne is formed.

I think this might work a little better.

I would say To understand the process in which acne is formed, a Dermatologist must acknowledge the anatomy of hair. or of our hair (generalizing all individuals)

It's a tad wordy for my style. Here's how I would edit it:

To fully understand acne, a dermatologist must be well versed in the anatomy of skin and hair.

(Contrary to what others have said, dermatologists must fully understand sebaceous glands and hair follicles -- hair anatomy. As a dermatologist must first become an M.D., they clearly have training in general anatomy.)

No it doesn't

A dermatologist is a SKIN doctor.

Also, basic grammar dictates a semi colon , not a comma.

To understand the process in which acne is formed; a dermatologist must first be a fully trained medical doctor. This individual must then have several years of additional training to fully understand the structure and complexities of the skin itself.

...I think you could create a more complete sentence; i.e. "one of the things a dermatologist must be knowledgable in is...."

this leaves you an opening to include other criteria the dr. has to also know about the 'process'. (check out using another word than 'process')
