There is, but not on so grand a scale. Former Congressman "Duke" Cunningham from San Diego is in prison right now. Former Congressman Dan Rostenkowsky from Chicago spent several years at "Club Fed," before Clinton pardoned him just before leaving office.
The corruption in this country is a bit more subtle, but when we catch 'em, we send 'em away!
Vote for Rudy!

when you say corruption ,you mean relative to Latin America. There are certainly corrupt politicians in the US , but maybe not to the extent as in Latin America. I think the reason for that is we have a free press that is always trying to expose it and bring it to light . also in the two party system ,each party is always seeking to gain political advantage by pointing out The corruption of their opponents although they ignore it in their own

Many politicians are corrupt here. From using tax money to buy their statues of the Virgin Mary, to abusing Franking privilege. The drug companies pay them off so they can charge us regular folk horrible amounts of money with a patent. Any special interest group can pay off most politicians. I'm not saying all, but I think it's far worse than people would like to admit to. Ask the politicians why there are so many hard working people without health insurance. They'll have it for life, even if they only served a two year term.

There are U.S. politicians who have been ousted for being corrupt while in office. Corruption usually occurs where the political party has occupied a position for too long, where the populace has a disdain for politics and where some positions have no oversight or lack proper checks and balances. You will usually hear of corruption in municipal or state offices, usually mayors who have been entrenched and get the mindset that they have entitlement to city services, then governors who accept favors because they are offered.

Wow, of course we have dirty politicians. However, here in the U.S., it has to be done 'differently.' You just can't throw a wad of money to a politician, people notice. They have to report income, so it has to be 'hidden' more here, and not so obvious. When I was working for the government, our motto was "no conflict of interest." If anyone even called you on something, it was better to step aside for someone else so that you could show you weren't conflicted. Sometimes people got off easy that way, by finding an official who didn't take their job seriously. However, as a rule, the government works, and works well.
Yes, we have bad politicians, but over-all they are good people. But, there will always be those easily swayed, its just human nature everywhere!

It's as bad here as anywhere, but you don't hear about it, it is veiled behind a hundred thin disguises, regulators get a job offer from the company they regulate, for a huge salary after they leave their present job...if they find the product safe. if you push through the law we want, you get big money donations, and a consulting job, consulting jobs are a major source of corruption, they can do nothing and get paid a lot consulting...in return for favors. the same companies that corrupt politicians in other countries do the same here. In China a few years ago an official took a bribe for a big contract, got caught and they shot him, after he was found guilty they don't fool around.

There is corruption in the US! Unfortunately!
It is not as bad as it is in Latin America or other countries because they do not have the same economic power as well as military power. The laws in the US are enforced and there is a lot of people constantly fighting for their rights.
In other countries, people are deprived of their rights or they just give them up and leave them to God's justice.

Are you serious, you think there's no corruption in the US? There are thousands of politicians with ties to special interests and other groups. It's a sad fact but inevitable with any gov't. We just have to hope we can weed out the truly corrupted before something terrible happens.

Just about every politician is mainly going to look out for #1, but there are different degrees of corruption. I guess most U.S. politicians fall in the "not quite as evil" category?

But there is, it is just not as obvious, corruption is sadly part of politics and leadership. There some people who just respond to power by being corrupt, in the US there are more watchdogs trying to stop it, in some countries that kind of thing is hard to stop.
