You would think they would just ban the cigs. Looks to me like they want to put up bogus restrictions to get more money from fines.
Edit:"I think it's ridiculous. I personally hate to be around cigarette smoking, but I don't feel banning anything is a good idea, you only drive people underground (or out into the street). It should be up to the owners of eateries and drinkeries whether they are smoke free or not. It should never be up to the government. When asked "What should the government do for us," the answer should always be "less!""
I agree, but the fact remains a bunch of drugs are illegal. Why don't they legalize those? Because the people who make the laws are hypocrits, which the laws are built around making profit.

Minnesota has a smoking ban similar to that. You should be able to smoke on your own porch. I think these bans are well-meaning, but completely hair-brained. Sure, ban smoking in almost every place, but why not allow smoking-only bars? The smokers go there, non-smokers don't, and everybody's happy. I don't get how some people think a bar should be sanitized and healthy. It's a bar, not a health spa!! Oh, and here people smoke just outside of bars in droves. Many bars have put special smoking-designated areas outside and many are even covered and/or heated.

I came from a state that's had a ban on indoor smoking for almost 10 years now. You get used to it. if it's the same law as here, you can't smoke in PUBLIC places (mall, bars, restaurants, etc) but here if the bar or restaurant has a smoking room (has to be closed off from the rest of the building) it's ok.
I'm ok with the ban. Being a parent, it's good to know I can bring my son anywhere without worrying about second hand smoke. It's your freedom of choice to smoke, but I think others should have the freedom to not inhale secondhand smoke.

Collectively the State of Illinois, right along with other meglamaniacs have Lost their Minds, need to be sued for High personal, income, homeowners and State Taxes, since it's Smokers paying the Brunt of those Taxes...Smoker's and others are Not Being Represented, they are all putting smaller businesses out of Business and shipping the rest of the really good Jobs overseas...Ritchie is Stupid and so is Blagoivitch...No Taxation without Representation and it Should Be another Boston Tea Party. This is European Union Style Law.
If Ritchie wants to have the Olympics there and displace thousands of Legitimate Chicago Born Natives. Let him face the Music...he Cheated Thousands of retired Chicago Police Officers out of their Retirement too Last time I was there the rent was sky high and It was not Safe and was called Beruit By the Lake as they allowed Gangs to run amuck, with Prostitution, violence and drugs terrorizing decent people and Destoying their Property. His old man paid some of them to do it and that started in Woodlawn and spread across the Southside of Chicago...
While he's Now, Placing Cameras on Every Street and Racially harrass People then, The City of Chicago needs to be Sued as well. He has been Promoting Racism for a Very long time, with Redlining in Loans, so that people cannot fix their Homes and CitiCorp Bank Is one of the Primary offenders. Fining People for Smoking outdoors Rather than Pay Police Officers to do Good, Decent Police work, he would rather chase down Evil Smokers...I got his Nighmare on Elm Street Too!
In addition to That, People Could Not even sit on their own Front porches in the Summer about 4 summers ago and could be percieved by police to be a threat. You call that Freedom? Sounds more like a Concentration Camp. It Is Loaded with Illegal Aliens too by the way and is called a Sancuary City. I guess they are a bit mor Compliant and with Good reason If they want to stay in America.
Ritchie Daley was born and raised in the Bridgeport Section of Chicago, let it go to hell and then Moved Downtown to enjoy the Best of Life for himself and Cronies like Burke and Vrydolyak.
The excuses they are using are unfounded. Carpeting, Asbestos, chemicals and other man made substances, right along with genetic inclinations do more to promote Cancer. Smokers should Stop Patronizing those establishments and Throw all the Bums out of Office!

I think it's great. It shows the intelligence of your state. I wish Michigan would do the same. I smoked for 19 years, quit 3 months ago. The best thing I ever did so far.

i thought it was only banned indoors. sh*t. if this is the case, where one can't even walk down the sidewalk and have a cigarette in their own neighborhood, the cops will be making a fortune.

Stop whinning! I'm tired of hearing cry babies talk about how their rights are being taking away. Smoking gets banned is public because it's an activity that violates the rights of people who don't want to be around that stuff? If you want to be around smoke, go somewhere else.
