You can be forgiven for not knowing that the 8th March is ‘International Woman’s Day’. I didn’t know either, just stumbled onto it. Which goes to show just how little woman’s matters are promoted. There are 1,617 websites currently linking their site and 49 different countries participating. IWD celebrates the collective power of women past, present and future. Many progressive global corporations clearly understand the importance of supporting women’s advancement. When you think about it it’s disturbing to realise that the 21st Century is still a male dominated culture that leaves women feeling overlooked, excluded or intimidated. Man’s dominance is accepted, otherwise, why the discrimination?

1) Do you believe that everyone should get the same pay as everyone else for doing exactly the same job? Fact: Women get 23% less pay than men in the IT sector and 17% less on average. For four years now campaigners have been trying to persuade the government to make equal pay audits compulsory (don’t hold your breath!). It seems that women may have to work forever to achieve equal pay!!! WHY?
2) Do you think that women should be considered equal to men? Fact: “Lack of equality appears to be pushing women away from important jobs. If more women came forward to fill the acute skills shortage, for example, the IT industry’s contribution to GDP could be increased by several billion pounds. Inequality is rampant in science, engineering and technology industries – like pay gaps and few women in top jobs because of the old boy’s network. From an early age women are socialised to see technology as the domain of men.

3) Are women submissive to men? Fact: “Women are dominated by men, always have been”. All through history men have abused, neglected, defiled, insulted, manipulated, belittled, exploited and mistreated women. Queen Boudicca led an army in eastern England against the Romans with her two daughters by her side. The Romans spared none, killing women and children. What these men did to women was too horrible to describe here. Margaret Thatcher broke the mould by becoming the first female leader of a political party in any western country; neither she nor other women leaders were followed by women rulers. Men are believed to be better suited as rulers whereas women rulers were seen as something unusual regardless of their skills and seen as being too weak, kind-hearted, irrational and too emotional to rule. There is not a single country where women enjoy the same political status, access or influence as men.

4) Do you agree with the following statement? “Women are second-class citizens”. The vast majority of cultures throughout time saw woman as a dependant, not a leader of men. The tendency was to assign women and men different roles, women’s special reproductive functions encourages this. The fact that one in every 100 women will die while having a baby doesn’t make men more caring about their actions. Women outnumber men in most countries and in the UK the population divide is 50.5% female and 49.5% male (the dominate species).
5) It is very significant that we have to have an International Women’s Day every year to raise awareness of this existing inequality and so many corporations around the globe are attempting to redress the situation.

2007-12-15 11:41:39 · update #3

6) Are you girls happy with the situation as it is or would you prefer a bit more respect from boys?
7) Are you boys happy the way things are? Don’t lynch me just yet! I’m with you; this suits me as any full-blooded boy, but it is just a tichy bit unjust, don’t you agree? Women have a tough life; puberty, the menstrual cycle, and childbirth, unable to go anywhere alone because men may violate them. And they suffer inequality. Women are beautiful and should be adored, worshipped and idolized by men, not treated like second-class citizens.

2007-12-15 11:45:50 · update #4

8) As for the question, I believe women would make better leaders. There would be fewer wars in the world. Women are inherently good, it is only men who turn them otherwise. Women are kind, resourceful, fair, intelligent, just, caring, compassionate and could succeed at anything but they must be prepared to educate themselves, learn the skills especially those that are usually in the men’s domain. Women are better drivers than men so why aren’t they driving Formula One or piloting airliners and F111s?

Thank you for bothering to read this tirade. I am very interested to know what you guys think. Do you ever think about it? What’s wrong with feminism? If you are not a feminist then are you in favour of women’s second-class status? What happened to women’s human rights????

Lovfacto Good answer. I think you are agreeing with me. We ARE all equal but few men will accept that. Many will go on to abuse women at any chance. And how can it not be equal pay?
Veritas Women have tremendous power with their sexuality but I don't think they all use it to their best advantage. Are you on low pay or something?

The notion that men are naturally superior to women just has to go. The days of thinking that way are over. Men may be physically stronger than women, but that's only one thing. Women, on the other hand, tend to have a much higher tolerance for pain than men do. It all seems to even out somehow.

As to pay, people who do the same job should get the same pay. Gender should never be a factor here. It's unjust to pay a man more than a woman when they're both doing the same job.

Equality? Yes, women are equal to men in terms of talents, ability, "smarts", among other things. Why would they not be? They do, after all, have brains.

It was common in times past, and in some societies it is required, that women remain submissive to men. This is wrong. It treats women like property and in a way of looking at it confers slave status on the woman. In our society people do not own other people. Women should not be automatically submissive to men, and men should not see women as people over which they have power.

We have to understand, once and for all, that stupidity, cleverness, kindness, sensibility, practicality etc. run amongst the male and female sexes equally. You will find real nasties amongst both sexes and I have seen very caring men in my environment plenty of times. Stupid men, clever men, stupid women, clever women. These characteristics are distributed equally amongst the sexes. It shouldn't be a question whether women should rule or not. Women can be just as bad rulers as men or just as good as men. There is really no difference.
Of all the things you listed, I could say that women could do it just like men and men can easily have no competence just like women. The 21st century is still a man-dominated culture in whatever way we look at it, although they are trying to create some patronisingly pathetic political correctness, which really drives me up the wall. Take for instance adverts on tv for cleaning products. These days it's the man doing the house chores whilst the woman overlooking the husband's activities (in the past it was the other way around). If it was really that politically correct then why don't they use a single man doing HIS own house chores with the advertised cleaning product? Or a single woman perhaps....
International Women's Day has been celebrated in my country of origin for many years and when I moved to the UK (over 10 years ago) I was very surprised that they don't do March the 8th here. But then all the clever men here would say 'It's women's day today but it's men's day every day - which is very true in my opinion.

Look, there is no reason why women couldn't rule. Some can. The thing is that a woman's brain works differently; a woman worried a lot about her own world, her own surroundings. But then, again there are some women that turned out to be better rulers than most men.

Hi
Should women rule eh.
You're obviously too young to remember the damage Maggie Thatcher did to this country and we're still counting the cost today, she was so dangerous that in the end even her own party had to kick her out but by that time the damage had been done. I guarantee any thumbs down to this question will be from those too young to remember all the strikes, power and fuel shortages, petrol rationing, three day working weeks and inflation at 17% and millions on the dole and by millions I mean more than at any time in history.
Should women rule....no comment history speaks for itself.

i dont think people should worry too much about ruling over the guys because guys are the ones who make first moves, and go throgh rejection, and they could have it harder in the dating area....but once they start getting sexist, like in the work world, then it will become a problem, because women can do pretty much what a guy can do if they actually like to do that sort of thing. people should never discriminate between genders so much that they wont allow a women to do what guy can do. in some situations, the guy can rule over the women...but not heavily...u know what i mean?....

and i dont hear much about discriminations in good relationships...i mean my dad is always like 'it up to your mother'...or 'shes the boss'....and i hear a lot of that in relationships...

in some relationships they guy tries to use the woman and take over....but those are bad relationships and dont last long.

so to finally answer ur question, women have their time to rule. men have other times to rule...and it should be equal...and i do notice that some men still dont realize that its the 21st century...but what can you do.

Just recently Argentina's new elected president is a woman. I hope in 08 a woman will be president of our country. Men being dominent has to do with evolution, and how mammals are made up. in nature, mammals are physically the dominent species. Humans should be passed the whole "macho bigger than you, manly man" thing, but they're not. We don't rely on machoness or strength, but hopefully we use our minds more with all the technology we have today... sadly enough ,many men think with the wrong head. men and women should be treated as equals. we are not cavemen or monkey people living in the jungle... so please dont drag me by my hair.

Decode this lyrics "Upside down"
With the Amazon women?
What will happen to the weakling Amazon men?
Mummy! Mummy!
We men don't want to wear mini skirt.
That will be quite embarassing for us men
Back in the past .
We cave-men drag the women folks by their long hair with the club on our shoulder and bring them back to the cave.
Now the women wanted to carry us off on their shoulder and bring us back to the cave.
We are not the worker bee.
Ever wonder what will happen to the worker after the mating season is over?
What do you think?

Yes!
I think that woman should rule all forms of Government right down to city councils forever and if as humans especially men and look very deep in our hearts we will see we screw up this planet big time.

Woman have measure up to men in intelligence and has surpass us in intellect and and raising children as well, plus they are mulit task as well and as men we all know it.

Woman would think 5 times before they sent their sons or daugthers to war and they would also show what war does to humans in full T.V. programing and we as humans can view the gore's of death.....I would never allow a man run for public office...appoint yes, run for office NO! NEVER!

We have seen MAN.....In Man's history there is only shame.

It will never happen women never finish anything already in England women are trying not to work if they are married. The men are crying foul because that makes them have to pay alimony if they are divorced. My ex would tell her parents and friends that I would not let her work so I made it a point to tell her in front of everyone to please get a job. She would get mad as hell. She finally got a job and I am off the hook.

Look, do you want a real battle of the sexes? If you do, women will lose. They cannot compete physically with men. Only technology has set women free from the subservience to their natural bodily functions. When WW3 kicks off that's the end of feminism girls, so make the most of it.
