because on older cars they have more of a carbon build up in the exhust manifold. Its a combintation of heat, carbon, and steam. My old ranger puts out more "exhust" than the 1 year old f-150. Its normal wear.

Well, the exhaust you see is steam, hot air hitting cold air. This is just a guess but, I think that the reason some cars put off more steam than other cars. Is that the cars with more free flowing exhaust systems move more air.The fast the air moves out of a car the hotter it is and puts off more steam.

The difference in temperature between the outside air and the exhaust creates the visible exhaust.
It depends on whether the car is warmed up or starting out cold.

It is the temperature difference between the exhaust and the air.
As an example, when it is exceedingly cold outside go out and blow out a gust of hot air, and then blow out cold air. You'll notice it's when you exhale the warmed air that it creates a visible cloud.
Same idea.

The ones with 'visible exhaust' (actually condensation) are not fully warmed up. After the exhaust gets heated up good the condensation will evaporate before it comes out the tailpipe.

it's the temperature of the exhaust that makes the steam or white cloud, so it varies by how hot the particular cars exhaust is.
