Because The World Is Round

You have it backwards. If the world was flat, then we would fall off the edge.

There is no up or down in space. Gravity pulls things to the center of the Earth. Man gives names to things for convenience. Things such as the northern and southern hemisphere. It does not mean that Australia is 'under' the Earth and the US is on top of the Earth. It is only a way that man uses to referrence the globe.

Everything on the surface of Earth is being pulled toward the center of the Earth. That is gravity.

First I have three questions for you:
1. How old are you?
2. What school did/do you go to?
3. Did you miss the jokes section and hit this one instead? Coz if not, i have a few words for your teachers.

But to answer your question: gravity holds us on this earth, so we dont fall up into the sky. Gravity acts to pull us toward the center of the earth, so no matter where you are (even in the south pole), you are anchored to the earth.

The mass of the earth (every little piece of it) acts like a magnet which keeps all other things with mass stuck firmly to the surface. This is much in the same way that the gravitational attraction between the earth and the sun keeps our planet constantly falling around the sun in what we call 'orbit'

dow down down there in space there is nothing ok?(close to earth) now imagine somebody is standing at the bottom of the earth ok ?
so you are asking why he doesnt fall ? becuase there in no gravity down down there but the gravity from the centre of the earth pulls the guy toward itself and that's why he doesnt fall...falling is caused by gravity ! if there was a huge huge star exactly below the earth then maybe the guy would fall down to that star because the star has gravity !!! one more thing. gravity is caused by mass , there more mass something has , the more gravity it has ! so if you go on mars which is very small comparing to earth ( i mean it's mass) and start jumping you would go higher !!!
english is my second language sorry if it wasnt clear !

The strongest pull of gravity is at Earth's core which pulling us down, so you can't really fall off the earth unless it was flat, then you might fall off the edge.

*gravity* is the key word
it pulls you towards the largest object around you
in this case, the earth is largest
you'd be pulled toward the center no matter what shape the earth is.....round, cubic, triangular....what ever
(although due to gravity everything is pulled into some kind of round shape)

You have stated a common misconception. As a matter of fact, people are falling off all the time.

Gravity. As the one guy said, it pulls towards to the planet, and it doesn't matter from which part of the planet it is. Let's say the planet is a giant magnet, and you are made of iron. The magnetic Earth would pull you towards it no matter what.

The only and only reason we do not fall is because of earth's gravity.

There is actually no falling thing in the universe. There is no up and down. Whereever you are standing on earth you are always up. You might think you are up and the person on the opposite side of earth as down, but that person will think exactly what you think that he is up and you are down. Up or down is a human perception but in reality there is no up and down.

Now your confusion is because you think earth is round so people on the other side are hanging down like bats hanging on the trees so why they don't fall down, but like we explained no body is hanging down everybody feels the same whereever they are on earth that he is standing up not hanging down.

Now earth is round or other shape with edge like a square etc it has nothing to do whether we fall from the earth or not. It is the gravity which holds us so irrespective of the shape as long as gravity is good no falling.

Once again there nothing like falling down. You go away from earth or come towards earth. Coming towards earth is felt as falling towards the earth and going away from earth is always felt as going up rather than falling down whereever you are standing on earth.

The main reason you feel you are always standing on earth rather than hanging down like bats is because of the size of earth. It always makes you feel that the sky is above you not below you.

But then size is not the only one issue. It is also the vast empty space around us. Think that you are standing on a small asteroid of few meters size ( theoretical situation ) and on the opposite side you have another person standing and you could see that person because of small asteroid size. There also both people will think he is standing upright not hanging down.
