There's a lot of places you can get ferrets - pet shops, private breeders (search online for one in your area), ferret shelters (again, check online for one in your area or go to http://www.petfinder.com a lot of ferret shelters list their ferrets available for adoption on that site), or check the ads in your local paper, someone in your area might have one they no longer want. Like some of the other posters said, bring along your current ferret so he/she can help pick out his/her new buddy (if possible - ask before taking him/her along, some places might not allow it). Good luck!

Whether you go to a ferret shelter of a pet store, you may want to bring your ferret with you to help choose a playmate.
I've introduced new ferrets to my home who absolutely did not get along with others, which the reason I have three cages between eight ferrets.
One of my ferrets, Anubis, was one of those who just pestered the heck out of all my others. Knowing that he was lonely since I had to keep him separate from the others, I brought him with me to a pet shop so that he could choose his own cage-mate. He had three to choose from and he picked an adorable little girl who was just as energetic as he was. The two have been inseparable ever since.

May I suggest adopting from a shelter not only will you be gaining a companion for your baby but saving a life. It will take time to research on the net. They are cheaper and very well cared for have all shots etc.. Search ferret rescue shelters in your area. Good luck.

Contact ferret rescues in your area, they're desperate to find homes for good ferrets that people have dumped on them. These will be ferrets already neutered/spayed, tested for ADV, given their updated shots, etc. The rescues can match up your needs with what they have at the present time or find one for you that will work well.
A google search should find them, or you can log onto a ferret bulletin board, or ask your local humane society who is doing ferret rescue in your area.
