There is always this debate in states where there are 2 dominant schools. In Texas it is UT and A&M. Both are very good schools and respected nationally. Both also have their own strong points.

However, UT has a more diverse curriculum, and is rated better overall than A&M.

I did not go to either school, and do not have a horse in this race.

I went to college in Alabama. This same debate exist there. Which school is better... UA or Auburn. Oddly enough, in both states the one university with the more diverse curriculum is rated higher nationally (by educational standards) and even more oddly, the other scool has the stonger engineering and agricultural school.

However, In Alabama, the agricultural and engineering school has the larger enrollment, unlike Texas.

Overall, I don't care about the radicals at UT or the kickers in College Station, I just look at the numbers.

Of course UT...i bleed burnt orange myself. But all jokes aside, if you are in to animal studies and more of a rural person, then A&M is for you. If you want a more diverse atmosphere, have better recognition (UT looks great on a resume) and more of a city person, then go for UT. Both schools are great for academics, but let your personality, major and social interests direct you to the correct school.

Hook 'em Horns! :D

Academically speaking, UT-Austin has a much higher ranking. Check the U.S. News and World Report data.

A&M has better agriculture/animal science programs but that's pretty much it. UT is much more diverse ethnically and politically speaking. A&M tends to draw students from rural small town conservative Texas while UT draws more from the cities.

Both good schools, but after 65 years of thinking about it (I was born thinking), My overwhelming choice is The University of Texas at Austin.
Lemme put it this way, how many people around the country do you here say, "I can't wait for my chance to visit College Station, Texas".

Like most of the others said, the two schools are very different and they attract different sorts of students. If you are looking into applying to those schools the best thing you can do is visit them and see which one you like better. If you want my opinion though, it's A&M all the way! Gig 'em Ags!

Just ask yourself this... Would you rather have hot women cheerleaders or men cheerleaders? Plus if you go to A&M you will turn into a hick and be initiated into their cult rituals. Also, according to Playboy, UT has the hottest girls.
