It didn't make me go into labor. All it did was upset my stomach and make me regret it.

It kind of depends on how close you are to term. I was 2 weeks overdue by my doctor's date anyway (shows you what they really know).

The baby was already dropped low in my belly so I tried the castor oil knowing it would clean out the bowels which is exactly what they do when you arrive at the hospital. (well, it's what they used to do)
In a short time it cleaned me out slick as a ribbon and I was in labor within 24 hours but it began in the night and I didn't even recognize what was going on. Then I realized I didn't "feel well" about every 3 minutes!
Thank God the hospital was close. I was only there an hour before I delivered so things went really fast especially for first child.

I'd recommend you prepare and get ready for a possible short term labor if you try the castor oil if you can keep it down. It's really gross even mixed into juice.

Please don't it awfull stuff. It gives you horrible diarrhea and it doesn't always work. It will only work if your ready for labor. I took it with both my babies with nothing more then 24 hours of feeling misrable.

I took it just three days before my daughter was born. It did nothing.

If you want to take castor oil I would suggest that you try pineapple juice instead. It woulds just as well as the oil without the horrible taste.
I bought a big can of juice at the store and drank it in about an hour. It works just as well.

If you really want to go into labor go for a walk. That has worked for me both times.

It'll only work if your body is ready. Honestly though, you could just use really spicy food. It tastes better then castor oil and will do pretty much the same thing which is stimulate your bowels to help start contractions.

Oh my...please dont try it. I did with my last pregnancy and it was HORRIBLE. I didnt go into labor but had the worst diarrhea ever(tmi sorry). My stomach hurt so bad and I couldnt even imagine what would have happened if I did go into labor because I probably would have pooped on the delivery table. Please dont put yourself through this, it also tastes realllly bad. Just drink some raspberry tea, i heard this works far better and is safe. Good luck

Castor oil only helps jump start labor if your cervix has started to ripen. If your cervix is not yet ready to start opening and thinning for birth..castor oil will only give you the shits and possibly ineffective contractions...A better choice would be sex..implant some prostaglandin rich semen onto the cervix to help soften it and prepare it to open for labor

DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT!

It's a common old wives tale, but it can be harmful to your baby. The reason is because it works somewhat like a laxative, and it can have the same effect on your baby. You know, the baby's first poop, sometimes happens during childbirth, they call it tar-like, I think it's called mecchonium (sp??). Well, if baby has this first poop in the womb, it's basically just sitting in there with it, and it's very unhealthy.

The best sure fire way to try and induce labor is sex. And making sure HE ejaculates. (Like that's hard, right??) There's something in "that" that can stimulate labor.

Also, having your membranes stripped. Your OB would do that.

Hope this helps!
Hope you have a happy, healthy baby!

DONT DO IT! My co-worker tried it and it caused her a painful and horrible labor! It will only cause you to be on the toilet in a least one way! And it can be harmful to you and the baby. So please dont do it!
