My grandmother has an old grandfather clock (an electric one however) and she beleives the motor of it broke and doesn't function anymore. Where would I get info about finding a new motor, or replacing it? Would using the motor of another clock work?

Hello Coelha:

In theory, yes, the motor should be replaceable. If you have any mechanical skill, you might be able to do so yourself.

Open the cabinet of the clock. find the motor and see if there is any information. To replace the motor, you will need to know the make and model. The voltage, direction of rotation, shaft size, horsepower will help find a replacement if you can't find an exact replacement.

If an exact replacement cannot be found, you may end up replacing the entire movement. This may be more expensive, but less frustrating than replacing the motor.

A motor from another clock may work, if you can match up the power, rotation, speed and shaft size.

Best of luck!
