do they even make sounds? how do they communicate?

sometimes they make little chirping sounds when trying to look for a mate

When turtles communicate, they do so mostly with visual or touch cues, like ritual courtship movements.

They make a few noises in their lives, but they are not social enough to use much communication between them.

On the other hand, they also do not hear much- a few sounds in the lower levels is about it.

There is some evidence that some tortoises and turtles use sub-sonics to communicate in burrows or underwater, but at this point we are not even sure what the messages are- if they are really being sent.

When they're swimming in the water, they make little motorboat sounds with their mouths. Just kidding...

I think they make sounds with their tongues or something that humans can't hear.
And when they walk, they probably make a scraping sound.
