The NHS is totally undervalued and taken for granted. It has to be one of last centuries most enduring and life changing policies. If it was abolished I think the people who complain about it would be the first to moan that it had gone.

I agree with you shambo. The NHS is undervalued. It has changed over the last 25 years in some ways for the better and in other for the worse.
Take dentistry, you have to travel miles for a NHS dentist. If you have a phobia like what I have you'll want to stick with the dentist you know and trust. It just so happens that the dentist I trust only see's private patients and I had to take out insurance.
In all sense I wouldn't go for the full health insurance as my preminms would be astronomical.

The question is, could everyone afford private health insurance?
Our health insurance doesn't cover meds, and my bf had to get an inhaler at the pharmacy filled - ONE inhaler that will last for a month cost $194.00.
Two days before, I went and got his blood pressure medicine filled for 2 months worth it was $166.00
Can most people afford the cost of health insurance PLUS medicine?? Sadly the answer is NO.
I think you're the luckiest people alive to have free health care. Don't know how lucky you are

The NHS should be overhauled but everyone should realise it's a gem that we're all entitled to free healthcare.
I was talking to a nurse the other day. She told me one of her colleagues who worked in theatre had to have a varicose vein op. She actually went private cos she was terrified of catching MRSA in an NHS hospital.
The NHS should be kept, but something needs to be done and quick.

They have it is US and is frightening. If you are not very poor, but your job does not provide insurance and you cannot afford it on you own (is extremely expensive for decent coverage), you can possibly die. A very bad idea.
