my dvd drive reads CD'R but cannot read DVD-R's what is wrong

It could be few things cause this to happen.

1. You've insearted a damaged or a data corrupted dvd-r to your dvd drive.

2. Your disc is not clean, try to clean it with alcohol.

3. You dvd drive firmware/laser len has been corrupted due to too much cd/dvd reading.

4. You dvd drvie does not support DVD-R disc but do support DVD+R disc. Try insert a dvd+r see if it work.

5. Your DVD Drive need to clean it laser len with laser len cleaner.

You probably have the generic driver for CD drive. You need to install the firmware of your DVD ROM so that it will work properly.
