I am downloading a file from isohunt. And then i extract the file with utorrent. is it possible that i might getg viruses? if so, how do i check?

It's always possible that any file downloaded from the internet is infected with a virus. If your antivirus (I assume you have one) has an "auto protect" feature, it should scan any files being downloaded and extracted. If it doesn't, you can right click on a file and scan for viruses.

I don't use any kind of P2P. If you download a file from bit torrent, and it is possible to save to a file in your system, then you should save, instead of run. This way you can scan with your antivirus/antispyware before running the file.

This info., also goes for any file that you download. Save, and scan, before you run file.

Downloading any file or compressed file, can be infected.

You can get viruses from files downloaded through BitTorrent just as easily as you can get them from files downloaded any other way. You should be using a good antivirus program, or for better protection, not using Windows at all.

Yes! If its zipped then it could have a virus in it. You can check by doing a simple virus-scan, with Norton, Aol Anti Virus, etc.
