i lived in somerset for 2 years and it was lovely. I lived in a tiny village and got to know a few of the locals. The problem I had was older country people are set in their ways and hate change. They can be very dificult to deal with.
i also lived near Gatwick airport for a year and it was love countryside - the people were not like proper country people and more open.
the advantage on the countryside is you can talk to people and smile without people thinking you are strange.
